DIRECTORS' NOTE
“Great things can never be grasped by the lowly, who only perceive things as they are.”
“Great things can never be grasped by the lowly, who only perceive things as they are.”
It is the power of the imagination which guides Quixote’s journey that inspired the direction for this project. To our hero, a windmill is an evil giant, tears aren’t sadness but crystals, and a village cottage is perceived as a castle’s tower. It is easy for any of us to move through this life and forget about our own creativity. Imagination can so easily bring joy to challenging moments, so why wouldn’t we hold on to it and nurture it - why do so many of us judge or resent the most powerful of freedoms that we can exercise?
And so, for tonight, we ask you to be a child again. To see things as what they could be! Don’t just suspend your disbelief - allow yourself permission to believe. We encourage you to trust as these actors play, as they become knights and damsels, shepherds and nobles, as this stage transforms into fields, an open sea, and a beautiful castle. We invite you to play with us - and don’t forget to laugh! |
